10 tips to prevent bad breath

Nobody likes to hear about it, and would be even worse to not know if you are suffering from it! Bad breath can be very embarrassing, but is quite common and there are numerous ways to fight it.
Bad Breath

A person can fight bad breath and keep the mouth healthy with the following tips:

BRUSHING TEETH TWICE A DAY

Brushing teeth for approximately 2-3 minutes twice, in a day, is absolutely necessary to remove plaque and debris. It is also an absolute MUST to brush your teeth before going to bed.

FLOSSING YOUR TEETH

Flossing is another activity for good oral health and helps preventing bad breath. Flossing removes plaque and bacteria build up between the teeth, which even a good toothbrush can’t get rid of.

BRUSHING OR SCRAPING THE TONGUE

To remove any debris that may be building up between the taste buds on the tongue, one should definitely invest in an inexpensive tool called Tongue Scraper or alternatively use the toothbrush for the Scraping the tongue.

DRINKING LOTS OF WATER

Drinking sufficient amount of water (8-10 ounce of glasses per day) can avoid dry mouth and help in washing away food particles and bacteria that are the primary cause of bad breath.

QUIT SMOKING, ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS

Smoking is one of the major activities that contribute to bad breath. Alcohol tends to dry your mouth and can leave an unpleasant smell that lingers even after brushing the teeth.

AVOIDING CERTAIN FOOD PRODUCTS

Following food products can cause bad breath. Avoid them as much as possible.
• Sugary foods and drinks
• Acidic drinks
• Coffee and caffeine products

EATING CERTAIN FOOD PRODUCTS

To avoid bad breath, one should include these food products in their diet:
• Sugar free yoghurt once a day
• Vitamin D rich products such as orange juice and eggs
• Fennel seeds and cloves

USING SUGAR FREE GUMS OR MINTS

Sugar free gums or mints can speed up the production of saliva in the mouth and flush out the bad bacteria.

RINSING WITH MOUTHWASH

An antiseptic mouthwash can kill bad bacteria in the mouth.

VISITING DENTIST

Visiting the dentist regularly is the best way to make sure a good oral hygiene is maintained. The first rule for the person with chronic bad breath is to visit the dentist to iron out any further dental problems.
